My Thoughts

Cop Out: I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan but considering he is not the writer behind Cop Out, I may skip this one and wait until it comes out on video. Hope the movie itself is better than the trailer, because I don't think I loled once while watching it. Plus the black cop/white cop thing has been done to death. Beverly Hills Cop/48 Hours/Rush Hour/Blue Streak just to name a few. I'm sure there are more.

The Crazies: It's a remake of the George Romero the 1970's classic. Looks like halfway decent and might be worth checking out. Not sure if it's worth your hard earned cash though, might want to wait until it comes out on Bluray.

Defendor: Looks like this is going to be the year of mock superhero films, as if Hancock wasn't bad enough. This year we have Kick-Ass and also Defendor. I do like the trailer though and it looks like Defendor might be my pick for film of the week. But don't take my word for on any of these, go out and see them for yourself.

Story: McDonalds inside Newark Airport but not just any terminal, it just so happened to be the same Terminal C, which is the Continental Airlines, that would later on that day be reported of in the news due to a security breach. It appears a man walked in through the exit of one of the security checkpoints into the sterile zone without being screened. Everyone in the secure area, even those people who had already boarded their planes and were waiting for the control tower to clear them for take off had to come back and go through security one more time. This cause 2 to 4 hour delays and they never did find the guy.

A molotov cocktail filled with diesel fuel and anti-Israeli literature were found today in a parking garage in Philadelphia. Anti-Israeli documents were also found nearby the makeshift bomb. The parking garage is located on the corner of Callowhill and North 16th Street, across the street from Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Offices.

Bomb Scare in Times Square

There was a bomb scare this morning in Times Square of New York City. Someone had reported that a mysterious white van which was sitting outside of the NASDAQ building for the past three days. NYPD had set up barracades and blocked off the street on both ends and evacuated all of the people from inside the NASDAQ and Conde Nast buildings. The van had tinted windows, an illegal placard from a non-existing government agency and no plate on the rear side of the vehicle. Once authorities opened the two rear doors, all they found inside was a tarp covering up some clothes. Recent reports indicate that van belongs to a local street vendor.

My thoughts: Unfortunately this just so happens to be one of Brittany Murphy's last films. I'm sure it is just coincidental that not only was released the same month as her death but it also features her dead in a bathtub on the movie poster. I think this might have gone straight to video because I did not see any trailers or hear anything about it before it's release. R.I.P. Brittany Murphy.

Christmas Day Terror Attack

A passenger on a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit attempted to blow up the plane midflight. The suspect in custody, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, is 23 and of Nigerian descent. He had an explosive device which was sewn into his underwear, which he was hiding underneath a blanket. Passengers heard a loud popping sound like a firecracker and then saw smoke and a burst of flames. God bless the heroes who saw this happening and got up out of their seats to subdue the man and get the explosive device away from him before it had the chance to detonate. The hero Jasper Schuringa, a Dutch producer, was sitting three seats behind the suspect, saw what was going on and heroicly acted upon instinct to thwart what could have been a horrible disaster. Details are coming in that the terrorist had originated from Lagos, Nigeria and then transfered in Amsterdam and then continued en route to Detroit. R.I.P. Brittany Murphy (1977-2009)

The year of death has claimed the life of another celebrity. This time actress, Brittany Murphy. She was known for her roles in such movies as Clueless, Girl Interrupted, Don't Say a Word, 8 Mile and Sin City to name a few. (Filmography) Cause of death is reported to be cardiac arrest, which comes as a shock to many because she was so young. She was found dead at her home in the shower next to a pile of vomit. Her family reports that she was sick with flu-like symptoms and was also taking a list of prescription pills, some doctors are saying this could be what caused the heart attack. This hits close to home for me, not only because he age is the same as mine but also because I used to have the biggest crush on her and she was one of my favorite actresses. Her performances in both Girl Interrupted, Spun and Don't Say a Word her best work in my book. She had a bright future ahead of her and it is no doubt a tragic loss for Hollywood. Snowstorm '09

For those of us who live in the Northern East Coast, a major snowstorm hit us hard over the weekend. It started early Saturday morning as I was driving home from the Cage show in NYC the night before. I drove until my eyelids started to get heavy and then pulled into the Thomas Edison Rest Stop on the Turnpike where I was in and out of sleep for a couple of hours. Once the sun came up I woke up mad cold, turned on the heat in my car and drove back down the Turnpike, then onto the Parkway and by the time I got back towards Asbury Park the flurries started to come down. As soon as I got home I crashed for a couple of hours and then woke up, looked outside my window and the ground was completely covered in snow. It was about six to eight inches at the time. I decided to get bundled up and then walk around and take some pictures. I got the camera from out of my car and noticed the batteries were all dead so I went to a little coffee shop called the Barbaric Bean here in Ocean Grove.

I got a hot chocolate and recharged my batteries for about an hour while listening to the horror stories of customers as they came in. Little did they know at the time what it was then is nothing to what it is now. After my hot chocolate and one good battery fully charged I walked around in untouched snow for about an hour taking pictures in and around town.

I went by the historic Great Auditorium, walked around the neighborhood and then decided to brave the elements and check out the beach. This was the first time I had ever seen the beach covered with snow. It was so beautiful and I'm sure that the words I use to describe it will never do it justice but the way that the wind was blowing the snow along the sands of the beach made it look almost post apocalyptic as if I was walking along the shore in the book, The Road, or something.

After that I came back to the house and took a nap (which I never do, must have been tired) and then this time when I woke up it was up to my knees deep. It was dark out and I had not eaten, nor did I have any food in the house so I took a walk to Dunkin Donuts and got myself two coffees and two bagels. Concert review: Cage @ B.B. Kings

Opening acts: Shinobi Ninja, Tame One

I got there a little bit late purposely and skipped over the Shinobi Ninja set. Just figured it doesn't make much sense to stand outside in the cold on line and wait for the doors to open at 1100pm for a band whose music on their myspace page was not my cup of tea. Nothing against them though. I got there around 1230am, no lines just walked right in. Tame One was on stage. The house was packed, most people I have ever seen at a Cage show and this would be my fourth this year. Tame One, member of the Artifacts and one half of the Leak Bros, did a pretty good job of warming up the crowd. He closed his set with an acapella rap dedicated to his hometown of Newark which would have even made the Mayor of Newark proud. Pretty good atmosphere inside. Most people were fans that knew all about the Cardboard City Weathermen movement and what it is all about, although you could tell there were some virgins in the crowd not knowing what to expect. After some downtime in between sets, DJ Chauncey and Cage took the stage and opened up with a botched version of Nothing Left to Say. There were some technical difficulties with the equipment right between the introduction poem and the pounding bassline when Cage starts off the first verse. He starts and then hesitates when he noticed something was wrong. It took a couple of minutes to get back up, in the meantime, Cage was challenging any hecklers in the crowd to come on stage and fight. I'm sure this was just an act but he sounded pretty serious. DJ Chauncey fixed whatever the problem was and then they opened with Nothing Left to Say, which is a song about his best friend Camu Tao who passed away laste year and also about his beef with former Weathermen member Vast Aire. Highlights of the show for me were when Tame One came out on stage and the Leak Bros were reunited on stage for the first time in a long time, they performed the song Dead. The mood of the show had started out with a motionless crowd which seemed to loosen up and get into it towards the end. Throughout the entire show, security guards were hunting through the crowd sniffing for random clouds of weed smoke that could be seen up in the air. When they found their man/woman, they would drag them out of the crowd a bouncer on each side holding each arm. For the last five or six songs, Cage brought out the special guests Chauncey had hinted about on Twitter all week. Special guests included Daryl Palumbo, also known as The President of Cardboard City, famous as the lead singer for Glassjaw and Head Automatica. Jarvis from Head Automatica on bass. Nick Hook, of Cubix Zicornia on keyboards and still DJ Chauncey on live electronics and turntables. El-P was there on stage walking around videotaping the performance with a little handheld device. You could tell that Cage, himself, who is known for being a depressed nuerotic psychological mess was genuinely happy to be on stage with his longtime friends. Overall it was a lot of fun. Looking forward to what lies in store for the Cardboard City Weathermen team in 2010.

Thom Yorke Crashes Copenhagen

Thom Yorke, frontman of Radiohead, is also well known for being outspoken in regards to animal rights and enviromentalism. He decided to crash the ongoing global climate change summit happening this week just to see if anything was actually going to come from all of it. He actually got in using a press pass to the event and laughed because he knew that he would not had gotten an invitation otherwise. Check out the videos below:

Just beat Assassin's Creed II...well, the DNA Sequence campaign at least. Who said you can't learn anything from video games? One of the great things about the Assassin's Creed storyline is that it is carefully based around factual events throughout history. For some reason the designers seem particularly fond of 15th Century and the history that lie there within proximity of Italy.

It turns out that Rodrigo Borgia, also known as Pope Alexander VI, was probably one of the most evil popes that ever lived. There are stories of murder, incest and the largest recorded orgy involving hundreds of nuns, servants and courtesans. More info on his atrocities here...

Half Assed Review

Assassin's Creed II is ten times better than the first one was. The storyline and plot keeps moving and you don't get lost or sidetracked the way some people did in the first one. No more downtime or sleep schedule for Desmond in between session's in the Animus helps the game focus more on what is important, which is hunting down the Templars which murdered Enzo's father one by one. But don't just take my word for it, hear it from guys who know what they are talking about...(sometimes) at Ign.

After months of searching up and down the Jersey Shore for the relaxation beverage known as Drank, I have finally found it, at a 7-11 in Asbury Park nonetheless. Drank's 3 main active chemical ingredients are Melatonin, Rosehips & Valerian. It acts as an excellent mixer with rum or vodka although it may make you pass out sooner than you had expected. And it also may also cause drowsiness so it is not suggested for consumption before operating a motor vehicle. This is the anti-energy drink so if you do decide to try it, best to do it in the comfort of one's own home because if you try it at work, you might not get much work done. More info here...

Turns out the spiral of light over the skies of Norway was nothing more than a failed test launch of a missle from a Russian submarine. Conspiracy theories had run wild to include such ideas as UFOs, wormholes opening up and/or the LHC somehow going out of control. We can all sleep tonight knowing none of those are true, it's just those silly Russians testing misssles, nothing to lose sleep over with thoughts of World War III and the upcoming Apocolypse...or is it? Cop shoots and kills street peddler in Times Square

This morning at 11:15am a cop shot and killed a street peddler who pulled out a Mac-10 after a chase on foot. The street peddler was trying to sell CD's to tourists in part of a scheme which involves signing the cover and then pressuring them into buying it for ten bucks. The undercover plainclothes cop had approached the conman and then asked him for his tax identification which is necessary for all street vendors. This is when the suspect, Raymond Martinez, who also had warrants for an assualt in the Bronx ran off on foot and the officer then pursued him. In front of the parking lot for the Marriott Marquis pulled out his weapon and fired two shots before the machine gun pistol jammed on him, the officer then shot him four times until he was dead. In my opinion this cop is a hero, he acted in self defense, followed the rules of engagement and probably stopped a future crime or murder from happening. Good job, NYPD. More info here...

What are the odds scientists restarting the Haldron Large Collider in Sweden two weeks ago and just now we are beginning to see what could be possible side effects from their little expirement showing up in Norway. Merely a coincidence I'm sure but somewhere down the road a line should be drawn between the expirements of which we can benefit from and those which we have no idea what will happen next. In a time of remakes and reboots it is nice to see an original film with an original script sneak in the backdoor. Sure...the plot has been done before, Ghost comes to mind, but it could be just what Hollywood needs as a breathe of fresh air. Starring Mark Wahlberg as the father who searches for answers to the mystery of his daughter's murder and follows her hints which lead him to her killer. Considering that it is also written and directed by Peter Jackson, known for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it might just be worth checking out.

Plot: Nelson Mandela, in his first term as the South African President, initiates a unique venture to unite the apartheid-torn land: enlist the national rugby team on a mission to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

In my opinion any movie which choses to use Nelson Mandela, political activist turned prisoner turned President of South Africa, as a main character but fails to document the trials and tribulations he faced while being held prisoner is an epic fail. Instead, Clint Eastwood decides to take the easy way out and make a sports movie. If you are interested in seeing Matt Damon kick around a soccer ball for two hours be my guest. On this one I'm going to have to pass.

Rivers Cuomo

The tour bus of Rivers Cuomo, frontman for Weezer, hit a patch of black ice on Sunday, December 6th. He complained of rib pain and was transferred, along with one other passenger, to St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, New York. Cuomo's wife, daughter, and a fifth passenger on the bus were uninjured. All concert dates that were scheduled for the month of December have been cancelled.
